Chongqing Audio Guide
Chongqing rises on hills at the confluence of the Yangtze and the Jialing, and its history reads vertically: Hongyadong, a stepped wall of stilt houses rebuilt against the Jialing cliff; Ciqikou, the port village that took its name from the porcelain it shipped; the China Three Gorges Museum, born to house what the reservoir was going to submerge; the Liberation Monument (Jiefangbei), the 1947 clock tower raised over the razed crossroads of the wartime capital; Luohan Temple, a nearly thousand-year-old monastery among skyscrapers with 524 arhats; Shibati, the stairway street that descends from the upper city to the lower; Chaotianmen, the old first gate of the wall facing the confluence of the two rivers; and Liziba Station, where the Line 2 monorail passes through a residential tower.

The EarGuide app is free. The Chongqing audio guide includes 8 independent routes with nearly eight hours of professional narration spread across 8 sites and 36 audio stops, and it is found inside the app itself.
No. EarGuide works entirely offline. Download the routes over WiFi before you set out and you can use the audio guide with no connection and no data use throughout your walk around Chongqing. The map shows your GPS position in real time even without coverage.
The Chongqing audio guide is available in Spanish and English, with professional narration prepared by guides and experts in the history of the city and the Yangtze.
The audio guide brings together 8 independent routes with nearly eight hours of narration in total, from 30 minutes to two hours per route. You can do them separately or spread them over two days: some cover the city centre and others, more distant districts.
They are different experiences. The EarGuide audio guide lets you walk Chongqing without timetables or groups, pause and resume whenever you like, and replay any explanation as often as you need. It suits independent travellers, families and anyone who prefers to understand the city at their own pace, with no prior knowledge of China.
The Chongqing audio guide covers 8 main sites: Hongyadong, Ciqikou Ancient Town, the China Three Gorges Museum, the Liberation Monument (Jiefangbei), Luohan Temple, Shibati, Chaotianmen and Liziba Station.
Partly. Jiefangbei, Luohan Temple, Shibati, Chaotianmen and Hongyadong are on the Yuzhong peninsula, the old centre, and link up on foot. The China Three Gorges Museum and Liziba Station lie somewhat further west, a long walk or a few metro stops away; Ciqikou is quite a bit further, and the practical way is to get there by metro or taxi and walk it with its route.
Yes. Purchases belong to your EarGuide account, not to one app or one phone. A city unlocked in the EarGuide app is also unlocked in that city's own app, and the other way round, on both iPhone and Android. Just sign in with the same account on the other device. The store's “restore purchases” button only covers the app the purchase was made in, so signing in is what carries it across.
The Chongqing audio guide is inside the EarGuide app, free and ready to use offline. Carry it in your pocket and explore the city at your own pace.
